Mirror Mirror vs. Snow White and the Huntsman

With two versions of Snow White releasing in theaters in the same summer, it is time we compare the choices of makeup and outfits in the two films.

Here is a quick video describing the differences in the films.

Mirror Mirror directed by Tarsem Singh sets a more comedic tone, with vibrant costumes and bright make-up. Snow White, played by Lily Collins flaunts a bright blue Victorian inspired dress and bright red lips in the movie poster. Her short-banged dark hairstyle captures the elegance of Audrey Hepburn, as her dark eyebrows highlight her thin face. Her rose colored blush brings us all back to the Snow White we all know and love, made famous by Disney. But most importantly, her look features the iconic bright red lipstick, practically popping out of the movie poster.

Singh's Snow White differs drastically from Rupert Sander's Snow White and the Huntsman, which has Twilight grunge star Kristen Stewart playing Snow White. Similar to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland released last year, Snow White plays the role of a strong female heroine, which probably explains why Sanders swapped Snow White's iconic bright blue and yellow poofy shouldered dress for a short dark brown lace-up dress, black leggings and black boots-although there is a slight poof in the shoulders-- and don't forget the shiny silver armor! Sanders ditches the iconic red lip, rosey cheeks and goes for neutral tones, with a nude lip and minimal make-up. We can only wait to see if this bold choice helps or hurts the connection audience image of Snow White.

Although based on the same classic fairy tale, these movies are clearly very different, with very different fashion choices. Singh chose to highlight vibrant colors and elaborate avante-garde Victorian dresses, while Sanders chose to play with the dark theme and make use of his suede browns and golds. We can only wait and see which audience seem to like more!
